A friend of mine sent me this link http://www.lwbstories.com/?p=6916 to an article a few months ago. I went to the site and read it at that time, but just recently re-read the article. Sometimes when you read something a second time, with time between readings, it hits you differently.
November is National Adoption Month. As I look forward to bringing another child home, I am reminded of the children who are left behind. When we travel to China, we are going to bring another child home. We will have two children born in China. What a wonderful blessing!
And yet, my heart breaks for those children left behind who will age out of the adoption system. For Chinese children, that happens at age 14.
I want to encourage you to read this entry on the Love Without Boundaries website http://www.lwbstories.com/?p=6916. Then pray. Pray for these kiddos who will never know the love of a family, who will never know what it is like to have siblings, who will never know what it is like to have parents and extended family. They will not have someone supporting them as they age out of the system. Who will help them as they begin their adult lives on their own?
The most important thing you can do is pray.
The second most important thing you can do is support these kids. Do you have room in your heart and home for one of these precious children? If so, GO! Go get your child!
If adoption is not for you, or not right for you at this time, are you able to donate to an organization that helps provide training and support when these kids leave the orphanages, alone? Love Without Boundaries, Lifesong for Orphans, National Council for Adoption, I Care About Orphans, Hope for Orphans, and Compassion (Compassion International, as heard in ads) are places you can go to help. Each organization is a little different.
As Christians, we are called to help orphans. Isaiah 1:17 says, "Learn to do right; seek justice. Encourage the oppressed. Defend the cause of the fatherless, plead the case of the widow."
Our lives are so full of blessings. Let's pass that on to a child who desperately needs some blessings.
