We have decided to enter China's special needs adoption program. There are SO many sn kiddos waiting for forever families! Now...if only we had a 10 bedroom house...!!!
People in the healthy child program now receiving referrals have been waiting since July of 2006; only 4 months after our March 2006 LID. Due to this long wait, many families already in the healthy child program are moving to the special needs program and are coming home with their children! Praise God for their open hearts, and pray that more families with room in their hearts and homes will bring children home!
I wish I could find exact numbers of China special needs adoptions, but I'm still looking! Maybe in a later post!
Children waiting to be adopted can have special needs ranging from very minor to very severe. It is important that families wishing to adopt a sn kiddo talk with their doctor and learn about various needs these kids might have. Some come home and adjust very quickly, some need more time. Some have needs that need to be addressed immediately upon arriving home, some can wait. It all depends on the sn and the child.
We are very excited that our doctor (and entire clinic!) totally support our decision! They are behind us 100% and can't wait! We are blessed to have such a caring clinic right in our town!
I have "met" through blogs and discussion boards many wonderful families and many wonderful kiddos who have come home from China. The fact that they have a sn doesn't mean very much, in many cases. They are wonderful, smiling kids with loving families. These kids are not only blessed themselves, but have brought blessings to their families. This only reinforces to me what adoptive families say: "This is the child God meant for our family. We were meant by God to be a family." Who can argue with that? :)
