We are adopting from China. Both China and the United States are Hague countries; they both have signed the Hague treaty adhering to the agreed upon inter-country adoption policies. The Hague treaty puts into place stringent requirements for countries, adoption agencies and others, all in the best interest of the children.
The United States ratified the Hague Convention on Intercountry Adoption on December 12, 2007 in the Netherlands. Hague policies went into effect on April 1, 2008. All inter-country adoptions sought after this date are now considered Hague adoptions, if both countries are Convention countries.
Along with this comes different paperwork than our first adoption. Most of the paperwork is the same, but there are some additional forms for us to complete. (So excited about that.) If the goal is to make adoption better for kids, than we'll do whatever it takes.
BTW, are you ready to adopt?
